==Background, recording, production, release and promotion==

''Once Upon a Time'' was initially scheduled for release in 2011, but problems with clearance made Tiwa Savage pushed back its release date.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/06/my-fiance-wiped-away-my-shame-tiwa-savage/ )〕 The album comprises nineteen tracks as well as two bonus tracks.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.360nobs.com/2013/05/exclusive-photos-from-tiwa-savages-album-listening-party/ )〕 Tiwa Savage named the album Once Upon a Time in order to portray the positive stories about her life. She wanted to motivate other upcoming artists by telling them that, once upon a time, she was a little girl in Isale Eko who dreamt of being a star.〔 During an interview with Berklee College of Music's Brenda Pike, she hinted to possibly recording songs with the likes of Chuck Harmony, Warren Oak Felder, and So Sick (Da Grin). Moreover, she said the album will embody pop, R&B, soul, and yoruba sounds.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.nigeriamusicnetwork.com/articles/read-tiwa-savage-biography-a-nigerian-singer_58.html )
On May 26, 2013, Tiwa Savage revealed the album's cover and track-listing during a private album listening party held at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.bellanaija.com/2013/05/29/bn-exclusive-all-about-tiwa-savages-once-upon-a-time-album-listening-party-in-lagos-photos-of-lynxxx-waje-banky-w-eku-edewor-bez-uti-nwachukwu-more-stars/ )〕 The party was sponsored by 323 Entertainment, Mavin Records, Pepsi and Baileys.
